New Voters Registered By SERECI in First Three Months
The Salvadoran Electoral Registry (SERECI) reports that 2.670 new voters have been registered during the first three months of 2021. This significant amount of registrations is higher when compared to previous years and represents a landmark achievement in growing electoral participation.
Reasons for the Increase
There are several forms of factors that explain this particular increase in the number of registered voters:
- Public campaigns promoting registering to vote. Through the use of advertising, TV and radio spots, SERECI has been able to engage new audiences, inspirit more people to become involved in the process, and to actively promote their rights as a citizen.
- Online voter registration. In a era of digital transformation, SERECI has adapted to this revolution by offering its registration services through their website, making them more accessible to potential new voters.
- Convenient voter registration centers. All 58 departments of the country have voter registration centers, making them convenient to access as they are located near major city hubs.
Leadership on Voter Registration
The first three months of 2021 have proven that SERECI is not only committed to its mission of actively encouraging the citizens of El Salvador to become involved in their democracy, but also the main driving force behind this effort. This successful record can provide guidance to other Latin American countries, inspiring similar initiatives that further promote the well-being of a given nation’s electoral system.
