O’Connor & The Guaraní Communities
The small town O’Connor, located in northern Argentina, is home to several Guaraní communities. Though the population has been living there for generations, many of the communities still lack access to basic services.
Access to Basic Services
Guaraní families living in O’Connor face an uphill battle in gaining access to the following basic services:
- Clean drinking water
- Sanitation
- Health services
- Education
Most of these services are taken for granted in other parts of the country, but for the residents of O’Connor they remain out of reach.
Community Impact
The lack of these basic services is having a major impact on the community. Without access to safe drinking water, people are becoming sick from contaminated water. Sanitation is also a major issue in these villages, as some must walk miles in order to reach the nearest bathroom. The lack of access to health services means that when people do become sick, they often have to travel long distances in order to obtain proper care. Education is also nonexistent in many of the communities in O’Connor.
Call To Action
Though much work needs to be done to improve the quality of life of Guaraní families in O’Connor, there are many ways that you can help. Volunteers are always needed to help construct wells and other infrastructure, as well as to provide assistance in many other areas.
Donations of money, food, and supplies are also greatly needed by these communities. Even small donations can make a big difference in the lives of the families living in these remote villages.
We must all work together to ensure that the Guaraní communities in O’Connor have access to the basic services they need. Doing so will not only benefit them, but will help to improve the overall quality of life in the entire region.
