22nd March: World Water Day
Water is a fragile resource. We can see it everywhere and in many forms, but it’s irreplaceable. That’s why it’s important to raise awareness about how to protect and sustain it for a healthier tomorrow, and that’s why the United Nations designated 22nd March of every year, as World Water Day.
What is World Water Day?
World Water Day celebrates the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. It is held annually on 22 March as a way of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. This day is raised in order to draw attention to the preservation of water and to advise on better management of resources. From year to year, various organizations in the world choose various themes to make changes in the process of preserving or protecting water resources.
Why is it Important?
Currently, freshwater accounts for only 2.5 percent of all the water found on our planet. Over two billion people lack access to safe, clean drinking water. Even though it is acknowledged as the most profound global crisis, it remains an invisible challenge. World Water Day brings attention to water issues, such as the politics of water, inequality in access to clean water, and the necessity to ensure safe water for all.
What Can We Do?
World Water Day gives us an opportunity to be part of a global conversation focusing on the importance of preserving water resources. Here are some of the things we can do to celebrate World Water Day:
- Educate: Educating oneself and others on the importance of clean water is a crucial step to ensuring the future is brighter.
- Conserve: Water is finite and conserving it is an essential part of preserving it.
- Support: There are many organizations working locally and globally to improve access to safe water. Donate to and support these organizations.
- Advocate: Spread the word. Don’t be afraid to let your voice be heard on this crucial issue!
Let World Water Day be a reminder that water is not an infinite resource and that our actions—big and small—really do matter. Let us unite to take action and make every day a World Water Day!
